Beacon has acquired 230 latest generation, intermodal wagons as part of a long-term lease with long-standing customer, Freightliner Group Ltd.
The new wagons will allow Freightliner to optimise train capacity for 40’ x 9’ 6” containers. They represent the latest in container carrying technology, developed by Freightliner in association with the manufacturers Greenbrier and Wabtec UK.
Rob Dee, COO of Beacon, said:
We’re delighted to add these wagons to our expanding fleet, whilst supporting a valued customer. This is another example of thriving through agility and collaboration.
Blake Jones, Freightliner’s Managing Director of UK Rail said:
“As the first Freight Operating Company to develop standard-height 40ft platform wagons, and the first to introduce the Shortliner (Ecofret) wagon, Freightliner has a proud history of setting the standards for innovative and sustainable wagon solutions in the UK. As the largest intermodal rail freight operator in the UK, Freightliner is committed to driving decarbonisation, which is at the heart of our strategic focus and aligns us directly with customer expectations. We value our relationship with Beacon and their support with the FFA-G wagon, which further enhances the environmental benefits of rail and makes an even greater contribution to bringing all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050.“
